Optical properties of Sr0.6Ba0.4Nb2O6 films on single-crystal MgO(001) and MgO(110) substrates

The optical characteristics of Sr0.6Ba0.4Nb2O6 (SBN60) films of different thicknesses grown by RF cathodic sputtering in oxygen atmosphere on MgO(001) and MgO(110) substrates were studied using spectrophotometry and ellipsometry. It has been established that only when SBN60 films grow on MgO(110) substrates, a significant anisotropy of their optical properties is detected, which increases with decreasing film thickness. The reasons for the revealed regularities, as well as the role of the film nanostructure in the analysis of their optical properties, are discussed.
